His Excellency Metropolitan
Paisios of Tyana, son of the late Maria and Frank Loulourgas
was born in Pireus, Greece in 1945. Upon graduating from
high school, he went on to Mount Athos (The Holy Mountain),
where in 1963 he was ordained a deacon. Pursuing his
educational studies at the University of Athens, he finished
at the top of his class and continued on to graduate school
in the United States, earning a Master of Theology. In 1972,
he founded the Monastery of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou and
its dependenceis. In 1997, he was accepted into the
Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and a year later,
was unanimously ordained Metropolitan of Tyana by the Holy
and Sacred Synod. In 1998, His All Holiness the Ecumenical
Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew appointed him as the
Abbot of the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery
of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou.
