His Grace Bishop Vikentios of
Apamia, son of the late Maria and Nikolaos Malamatenios was
born in Athens, Greece in 1954. Upon graduating from high
school, he went on to pursue his higher educational studies
at the Patriarchal School of Jerusalem. In 1977 he joined
the monastery of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou in New York,
where he was ordained a deacon and pursued further
Theological research and study. He taught at the School of
Saint Irene where he also served as principal and chief
editor of publications. On April 7th, 1998 he was
unanimously ordained Bishop of Apamia by the Holy and Sacred
Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. On
April 11th, 1998 His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch
of Constantinople Bartholomew appointed him Administrative
Bishop to the Patriarch as well as Deputy Abbot of the
Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of Saint Irene
Chrysovalantou.
