The Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearers

Κυριακή των Αγίων Μυροφόρων

May 11, 2008

ENTER SUNDAY READER >>

The Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearers is the Second Sunday after Easter

we commemoratel:

The Holy Myrrhbearers

who because of their great love for Christ, were neither afraid nor terrorized by the fear that hung over Jerusalem after the Crucification of our Savior.

They Sacrificed all for Precious Myrrh

At a time of horror, when others hid for fear, these remarkable people selflessly sacrificed all they had for precious myrrh  for which to anoint and care for the body of Christ.

We Celebrate the Great Love

that the Myrrh Bearers had for Christ. Though they knew they would suffer greatly for it, the Myrrh bearers  bravely revealed and announced the truth of our Lord's Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Just as the Myrrh Bearers prepared a burial place for our Lord in His tomb (but also in their hearts), so should we take the time to prepare a place for Christ in our own body and heart.

By preparing for Holy Communion and lighting our life with faith, love and good works, we anoint our own body with the same precious myrrh, preparing it as a place of rest for the Sanctifying Body of Christ as we become the new Myrrh bearers of the Church.
